Programme by Indian Association for
Radiation Protection
School of Liberal Studies (SLS), in collaboration with Indian Association for Radiation
Protection (IARP), conducted a Radiation Protection Awareness Programme in PDPU
during 30-31 March 2017. It immensely helped to understand nuclear radiation
related issues better by removing many of prevailing misperceptions. The students got
an opportunity to listen to eminent nuclear scientists from BARC and Kakrapara
nuclear power plant and saw the reactor models, radiation measuring devices, etc.
Eminent nuclear scientists namely Dr KS Pradeepkumar, Dr. A.K. Patra, Dr. M.K. Jha,
and Dr. R.K. Dubey elaborated on issues pertaining to utility of nuclear energy, role of
Department of Atomic Energy, and socio-economic importance of radiation
technology. They also measured the background radiation level within PDPU campus
for our understanding that radiation is a fact of life.
