GLOBAL UGRAD SCHOLARSHIP EXPERIENCE BRIEF BY RITWIKA VERMA
Ritwika Verma, a student from the SLS 2016 batch spent her sixth semester at Presbyterian College,
South Carolina, USA, from the months of January to May 2019 under the prestigious US government
semester exchange scholarship called the Global UGRAD Scholarship. It is a fully funded US
Department of State Scholarship which gives selected students from various developing countries an
opportunity to study in the US for one semester. In her semester at Presbyterian College, she studied
various courses in American politics, policy and foreign relations, which gave her a great learning
experience by gaining new knowledge. She was also able to make it into the esteemed Dean’s Merit List
at Presbyterian College, which is an academic performance recognition given to students who score in
the top 10% of their batch. Despite being on an academic scholarship, life was not all work, she got to
travel to eight states across America and visit some iconic cities like New York, Chicago, New Orleans,
Atlanta, Washington DC, etc. The semester abroad for her was a wonderful time meeting new people,
learning new cultures, seeing new places and educating herself with new knowledge.
