The 2019 RDW conference focused on the future of work, to advance the understanding of what
innovative institutions and transformative policies could help in ensuring a more equitable and just
society. 150 Papers were selected across four major themes to help the global community in shaping a
better future of work with a focus on: (i) transitions and transformations in the world of work; (ii)
rethinking capitalism; (iii) well-being in the world of work; and (iv) building and renewing institutions: a
social contract for the 21st century. This conference marked the ILO’s 100th anniversary in 2019.
With the advent of fourth industrial revolution, increased migration, rising incomes & inequalities, there is
a need for transformation in the world of work. Research in the following areas is strongly encouraged:
worker well-being in the era of fourth industrial revolution, work-sharing, rebuilding collective bargaining
through e-voice, Role of AI in occupational safety and health, protecting workers in the digital age,
