VISIT OF SHU
PROFESSORS
Dr. Sara Ross and Prof. Sean Heffron from Sacred Heart University, Connecticut
visited SLS PDPU on a two-week program from January 9th - 27th, 2017 to teach
courses in Mass communication, Films & Society, and Business Communication
respectively. SLS students loved attending their courses that ranged from movie
screenings to elevator speeches. Dr. Ross screened classic Hollywood lms like
Double Indemnity, His Girl Friday, and Gentlemen Prefer Blondes etc. The aim was
the following:
- Learn about the history of women in Hollywood Film and Television
- Develop and apply the skills to be active, critical consumers of mass media texts
through a variety of analytical methods
- Analyze ethical issues relevant to the production and distribution of mass media
texts.
- Develop the skills to communicate and integrate ideas in oral, written, and
audiovisual form.
Prof Heffron's class learnt professional networking etiquette, interview skills
(mock interviews), resume building (workshop), non-verbal communication and
inuence, presentation skills, and a workshop on Microsoft Excel.
