Prospects by Dr. Meera Komarraju's
A distinguished guest talk on 'Global Opportunities and Career Prospects' was
held on January 2nd, 2017. The esteemed guest for the seminar was Prof.
(Dr.)Meera Komarraju, Dean of School of Liberal Arts and Professor of Applied
Psychology at Southern Illinois University, Carbondale, USA. The welcome
address was given by Director General Prof. (Dr.) T. Reddy. He shared his views
about the academic rigor in foreign universities. He also shared with 'A' grade
NAAC Accreditation, PDPU is now more open and condent to collaborate with
foreign Universities.
Dr. Ritu Sharma, HOD Psychology introduced the Prof. Meera for the day. Prof.
(Dr.) Komarraju shared her life's journey and about her academic qualications,
positions and awards achieved. She explained stating the importance of being a
student of Liberal Arts as compared to other disciplines. She emphasized on what
a Liberal Arts student generally inculcate, such as, problem solving in diverse
settings, critical thinking and analytical reasoning skills, good oral communication
and writing skills, awareness of global issues, societies and cultures and many
more. She also talked about courses offered in Southern Illinois. She talked about
the opportunities in terms of internships, community service and volunteering
activities. She explained the teaching pedagogy and expressed academic
thoroughness and hardships encountered by the students. Afterwards, there was
an interactive session with the audience. SLS Dean and Director Professor, Dr.
Nigam Dave honored Prof. (Dr.) Komarraju with a shawl as a gratitude memento
and subsequently extended vote of thanks to invited guest, faculty members and
the students . The lecture concluded with a group photo session.
