SLS RURAL INTERNSHIP
2016 - 17
From the very beginning, the SLS Rural Internship (RI) Program has been
committed at providing diverse opportunities to learn for its students. Our
partnership with various NGO's is motivated keeping this very rational in mind.
The basic thought behind sending students out in a rural environment is to help
them understand the nuances of rural life with an objective of learning from
indigenous adaptations and solutions to rural challenges. We believe there is a lot
the students can benet from the interface of rural with urban. Needless to say,
that every noble endeavor needs full participation of its constituents.
A group of 113 students of First Year B.Com. (Hons.) 46 Girls and 67 Boys were
sent to Lokniketan Trust Ratanpur and Virampur for 21 days starting from
December 19, 2016 to January 10, 2017. This is a compulsory Internship and
holds 3 credits. The students are required to stay at the NGO and work in the
villages as per the given schedule. They are not allowed visits back home and
have to live the way the rural people live, getting up early at 5.30, cleaning their
own utensils, taking buckets of hot water to the common bathrooms, learning to
live without Television, Air conditioners, no WiFi and poor network and contribute
to the life of the villagers and villages by means of tasks assigned by the NGO.
The Girl students were put up at Lokniketan Ratanpur and Boys were put up at
Lokniketan Virampur.
The internship was coordinated by Ms. Neeta Khurana with Ms. Khushali Purohit
being the co coordinator from SLS, PDPU while Mr. Kiran Chavda, MD Lokniketan
Trust personally oversaw the Internship at his institutes with h
