The 21st June was the date everyone was counting down the days for , but to the surprise of many , lockdown was extended by another 3 weeks . However , there seems to be a more pronounced feeling of optimism during this period - some festivals were actually going ahead and England ’ s performance at the Euros has established an undeniable unification amongst the UK .
The Cause has recently acquired a warehouse space which they have been using to screen the 2020 Euro football matches . It ' s undeniably been a standout venue throughout the summer of 2021 , selling out every single England game and attracting celebrities such as One Direction ' s , Louis Tomlinson . The Cause was not originally here to stay . To begin with , it was just supposed to be a venture to raise money for charity - hence the name . However , it has now established itself as a forerunner in the nightlife scene , recently announcing a festival-like event , Worlds Collide , with drum & bass legends , Chase & Status headlining the first show .
The Cause ( together with the warehouse space ) will have a capacity of 2,000 people , which will now make it a main competitor for larger venues like Printworks and The Drumsheds . Yet , the venue prides itself on being independent and having a community feel , despite expanding . The Cause has managed to bring more opportunities to the venue financially , but still having the same character as when they started out a few years ago . " The character has carried through lockdown and after ," says Blaise Oldham , staff at the venue .
The recent ‘ Save Our Scene ’ protest just showed how important music is to the country and the feeling of animosity towards the government ’ s treatment of nightlife culture . Sadly , dozens of venues have disappeared . The Cause , however , saw an opportunity to expand and overcome obstacles . Most venues simply did not have the resources or the chance to expand .
If you have been to The Cause , you will be aware that there are an endless amount of rooms . It is fairly easy to get lost , with endless twists and turns . The smoking area has been converted into multiple ‘ rooms ’ ( named ' Costa Del Tottenham ) so that several events can run at the same time . There ’ s the ‘ Terrace ’, ‘ Greenhouse ’, and ‘ The Yard ’ that host events of different genres - from dancehall to drum & bass , bassline to bottomless brunches . There ’ s something for everyone . ' The Theatre ' is a recent addition , with a multitude of new rooms being revealed after lockdown restrictions are lifted on 19th July .
