wide-brimmed hat. On its own, it’s
unremarkable, stolid. Beautifully fitted
and considered, but a little dull.
Mashed potatoes. Add the
monochrome printed pocket
handkerchief, and the eye is drawn, the
senses satisfied, the warm, satisfying
yellow of the shirt brought into stark
relief. The handkerchief is the crispy
tangy hot sauce on the burger, the blue
cheese atop the asparagus. And the
entire collection is a beautifully
prepared feast, though the ingredients
on their own appear commonplace.
What Agnés B has achieved is
remarkable not because of any
individual ‘talking point’ pieces, but
because she has skilfully transformed
the mundane into the transcendent by
carefully considered use of her
components. No tricks, just know-how.
An utter pleasure to behold.
