and purples, oten sharp neon yellows
and blues, draw attention to the
unlikely beauty of the form itself, which
is in its workmanlike simplicity. They
look like shoes it would be an absolute
joy to wear, and which would age
tremendously well.
In fact, despite its audacious futurism,
this collection doesn’t feel transient or
fragile. Instead it seems to sit astride
the ages, at once harking back to
noble, dependable, almost Victorian
source material, and casting its eye
forward to the materials and cuts we
associate with sci-fi and zippily
efficient future civilisations yet to be
conceived. I can see this kind of thing
catching on in a big way, is what I’m
saying. Prepare yourself for a future in
which your cucumber sandwiches and
Earl Grey have you wondering how
long it can possibly be until the extraterrestrial visitors arrive!
