Diego Vanassibara Interview

Shards of broken glass surround me,
catching and throwing the light every
which way. Some shafts of light lance
across the space to illuminate familiar
shapes, here a brogue, there a sneaker.
Others merely skirt moody patches of
darkness around the walls and floor of
this little enclave, a world within a
world at London Collections: Men. It is
the semi-hidden installation space of
this season’s NewGen Men exhibitor,
Diego Vanassibara.

“It’s a modern day mosaic,” Diego tells
me, having apparently conceived of the
installation after dropping his phone
and smashing its screen. It’s beautiful –
a flowing wave of edges and planes,
lifting the eye to marvel at the
creations adorning its crests: a new
collection of footwear by a man who
studied architecture in Brazil before
finding his true calling in life.
