I was not the best man, a point the groom rather endearingly, though unnecessarily, apologised implicitly for when he asked me to usher, by mentioning in the same sentence who the best man was and why. I was instead, the second-best man. The quite good man. The fairly decent chap. And I was delighted so to be. However, I learned something new about weddings by being part of one.
