with simple white piping outlining the
pockets and edges. Those whitish
loafers again, though this time with a
hint of red, just bookending the look
slightly in combination with the
reddened white of the model’s face. It’s
a shocking pause in the show, as
something so utterly simple holds its
own in this sea of brash colour and
sharp lines. Sometimes, boldness
means making more out of less, and
Topman have done a stupendous job of
making that point.
From a brand so irmly
established on the
‘high-street’, one might
expect nothing but
pleasantries...
Having said that, though, the collection
travels quickly from the sublime to the
ever-so-slightly ridiculous. One top
proclaims “Torquay” in bright red on
yellow. I don’t know if you’ve ever been
to Torquay, but I have and I assure you
it’s nothing to shout about. Then
there’s the hideously yobbish look
featuring grey-checked short shorts
and a pale blue long-sleeved sweater
bearing the hastily type-set slogan
“Dirty Weekend” in black enclosed in a
white heart. Anyone wearing this outfit
in public deserves a dirtier weekend
than they ever hoped for. Something
involving a shovel and some stables.
