Unflattering Plate, Disappointing Breakfast by George Reece me as I tucked into my sausage Iandt struck eggs one morning last week in a café near King's Cross; fashion is everything. My breakfast had been delivered on one of those trendy, modern, rectangular plates you see, and while on close inspection all was present and correct; hash brown, beans, bacon, tomato, toast, even a little mushroom; the breakfast seemed too small. On a more traditional round plate, the meal would have spread out and occupied space in a less ordered way, but on this long thin platter the same amount of food looked somewhat disappointing. It shrank from my eye. The thought occurred to me that the plate did not flatter the food.
