Short-form videos have taken over the daily lives of people with their addictive features . Vines first pioneered the trend as early as 2013 . And platforms like TikTok , YouTube , and Instagram Reels have pushed this trend to new levels . According to IAB UK , these shortform videos are most popular among younger audiences , mostly 15 – 24 years old . But have you ever wondered why short-form videos are so addictive ?

As this research taught me , I could see how these videos are influential nowadays and how it is challenging to stop scrolling through the videos through interviewing . To gain further insight into this phenomenon , I interviewed three SLAS students — Belle Jung , Kako Nagano , and Drishti Darshini Pattnaik . According to all three students , they usually spend 2 – 3 hours a day watching these short videos . They find them attractive , and they are much easier to watch than longer videos . They admitted that they couldn ’ t help but scroll down over and over , getting lost in the endless stream of content .
So , what is the hidden psychology behind these short-form videos ? The average internet user ’ s attention span only lasts for about 8 seconds . This phenomenon resulted in the rise of short videos on applications like YouTube and Instagram . Short videos fulfill the viewer ’ s need for instant gratification by providing information that conveys a message or amusement immediately . source : medium . com
