Class Introduction: Graphic Design by Jade Seo

In the SLAS graphic design class, students learn how to express themselves visually and artistically by practicing design skills using digital programs. Mr. Luke Patterson conducts this class.

This course teaches professional skills about Photoshop and illustrator. It helps students to be familiar with the design and“ creating” their artwork and product.
According to Mr. Luke Patterson,“ The beauty of Graphic Design is that it can be used to create Art, as well as products. Graphic design is a great jumping-off point for Designers to modern society, able to combine own interest in the business.”

Graphic design is the study of using visual content to communicate with viewers more effectively. One difference between graphic design and traditional design is the existence of the“ undo” button, which helps designers to make fewer mistakes and try new experiments without harming the initial design.
During semester one, graphic design classes analyzed four steps of the design cycle: researching, gaining knowledge, developing ideas, and evaluating. They also had projects about propaganda posters, typography, package design, and how to use the workflow’ s design process.
The first main project was creating a design element poster. Students chose one element and expressed it in their unique way. Students learned deeply about the design processes during the layout period, such as using mood boards and idea boards, using functions and tools in Adobe Photoshop to create the poster aesthetically.
