LAS, like many private schools, has a strict uni-
form policy, yet many students prefer to wear
their own clothes to school and they don’t under-
stand why we have a uniform policy. There is a lot
of research available that supports the idea that
uniforms benefit students in many unseen ways.
Some people can afford very expensive designer
clothes and some people cannot. This situation can
lead to bullying, and it can also create poor self-es-
teem. When kids wear uniforms, they are no longer
able to visually differentiate themselves in terms of
class and wealth. This creates a more cohesive and
equal environment for everyone.
According to niche.com, the percentage of public
schools implementing a uniform rule jumped from
13% to 19% between 2003-2012. Schools recognize
the advantages of uniforms, such as students saving
time and decreasing stress. In the morning, choos-
ing clothes causes unnecessary stress for students.
By having a school uniform policy, students will
have good time management and will avoid unnec-
essary stress.
Some people argue that kids should be able to
dress any way they want, they feel it gives children a
sense of freedom and self-expression. Teenink.com
says that wearing no school uniform makes you
less bored and less tired, however, many at school
report the opposite effect.
If students don’t like their current uniforms, they
should propose changes to the administration
to update the uniform design. This change could
benefit everyone involved and students would feel a
sense of ownership over their required style choices.
