Teaching Perspectives of Japanese Teachers at SLAS by Kanon Kijima

Japanese teachers have their own style of teaching , and they relate to their students in different ways . They shared their perspectives in recent interviews .
Ms . Nori
Ms . Nori teaches the secondary home language Japanese class . Aside from teaching secondary she also supports the Japanese department by assisting other teachers in their classrooms .
Ms . Nori said that she wants students to have fun while learning in class . Creating a fun mood allows students to talk about their thoughts and feelings without feeling scared .
Her class is known for having friendly , talkative , and respectful students .
Ms . Eriko
Ms . Eriko is the elementary school teacher for first to fourth graders .
Many students now in secondary mostly had been taught in her class . Her students note how Ms . Eriko tries to make the classes have fun while learning .
Ms . Eriko said students who have fun have more interest in having knowledge . She loves finding silly mistakes in her student ’ s work and thinks about how she can lead them to the correct answers .
She likes to keep good and fun relationships with students and she treasures communication skills .
Mr . Toshi
Mr . Toshi teaches Japanese as a foreign language in the secondary department .
He started teaching in Japan right after graduating from college , and from that time he remained a teacher .
Mr . Toshi mentioned that he tries to look at the personality of each student face to face . If he can assess the students one-on-one , he finds it easier to target his lessons to their learning styles .
He feels it is important to practice communication , so his classes have many discussions .
