The First House Competition of the Year

The ball is soaring towards him in the air , trying to win the last point for his team , he jumped , spiking it as hard as he could . The ball rocketed across the court and landed on the baseline . His team , the Red Lynx , won and the crowd of other lynxes cheered for him .
The four houses of SLAS ( Red Lynx , Black Lions , Silver Snow Leopards , White Tigers ) compete against each other in house games every two months . The games can be sports-related or art-related . At the end of the year , house points are tallied up and the winning team wins a field trip to the movies .
This year House Red Lynx went to the cinema to see Dune .
House events occur every month unless there are special events ( such as Halloween in October ).
The first house game of the year occurred on September 30th . High school students played volleyball and middle school students played soccer . The teams are separated by grades to keep things fair .
I played in the high school games for house Black Lions . Our teams weren ’ t evenly matched . Last year ’ s winners , house Red Lynx , were too strong this year ; winning all of their matches with ease . The Silver Snow Leopards , on the other hand , lost all of their matches .
According to the secondary house coordinator Alex Brown , the result of the middle school soccer games was : Black Lions having two ties and one loss ; Red Lynx with two wins and one loss ; and both White tigers and Silver Snow Leopards with one tie , one loss , and one win .
There is still a whole year ahead of us , and I want my team to lick our wounds and come back for a victory in the next house games . In the meantime , we can earn house points individually by being recognized by our teachers as stand-out students who follow the core values : confident individual , compassionate citizen , creative thinker , and proficient communicator .
