Secondary Students Now Have a Split Period Lunch

by Roshan Luo

This year the school administration scheduled secondary lunch between the third block to accommodate the return of cafeteria dining .

Last year , due to pandemic measures students had to eat lunch and have wildcat in their homerooms . This meant that friends were mostly isolated from each other all year .
Last year , students had a 25-minute homeroom class after the second period followed by a 35-minute lunch in the same room . Students typically did not leave their seats within this hour .
The cafeteria has two lines for students that eat the school lunch . Each line has about 35 students with a wait time of approximately 10 minutes .
Due to pandemic measures , students are only allowed to eat in the cafeteria . When they finish , they are allowed to go outside or stay in the first-floor lobby . In previous years , they could eat outside or in other areas of the school .

The new schedule has 45 minutes for the first half of the third block , then a 30-minute lunch , followed by the last 45 minutes of the third block .
Secondary science teacher Cade McBroom believes the new schedule has the advantage of making the students believe that the third block is shorter , without actually changing the original time .
Block 4 : 2:15-3:45
Grade 9 student Myles Jin said the separation could interrupt whatever he is doing during the third block , but it also gives him a break and the option to study more if necessary .
Grade 11 student Vansh Padaliya said lunchtime begins too late in the day , and it is too short .
Lunch begins at 12:25 and lasts for 35 minutes including passing time .
