Students Adopt Solitary

Although many students reported doing nothing more than sitting idly in their rooms during the summer of 2020 , a growing number of kids took to new , solitary hobbies . Other students spent their vacation at cram schools , or if they were lucky , traveling in China . Most students were forced to play a waiting game in their safe homes due to fears of COVID .

The author and her friend Hayeon discovered that they enjoyed needle felting alone in their rooms . Needle felting is a way of making dolls and figures by using special needles and wools . The process involves rolling wool into the desired shape , then stabbing it with special needles to fix the form into place . It does not require any special skills or techniques . People often use needle felting to create mini versions of their favorite pets and animals .
Grade 9 student Yewon Jeong found cooking to be a fun and useful way of beating the quarantine blues . She recommends newcomers to start cooking with simple dishes , as she did .
Digital drawing with electronic tablets captivated students like ninth-grader Lana Lee . She describes drawing digitally to be more flexible to use , and it is also more cost-effective than physical drawing . Just download a free drawing application and start creating artwork . Lana said she enjoys drawing to upload her creations to Instagram so that her friends can see her work .
