honest work into their assignments , others choose to plagiarize using A . I . programs . In fact , disappointingly , according to a survey done by Forbes , 89 % of the students admitted to using ChatGPT on their assignments ( Westfall ).
Furthermore , Westfall recorded , “ 48 % of students admitted to using
ChatGPT for an at-home test or quiz , 53 % had it write an essay .” This proves that more than half of the students surveyed took advantage of an A . I . program to cheat on their assignments . Moreover , keep in mind , that these data are only from the students who admitted to their actions . Using these programs to copy off and not cite the source is considered plagiarism and a form of academic dishonesty .
English literature proffessor Eoghan Ryan suggests that it is also considered cheating when students use A . I . programs to fabricate information in order to support their research . This is extremely unfair to students who put their original efforts into their assignments .
Plagiarizing can also alter one ’ s knowledge and eventually damage their reputation .
Receiving the help from an A . I . program may also limit one ’ s creativity , preventing them from developing passion for learning and being open-minded . This cripples two of our school ’ s core values : creative thinker and compassionate citizen .

Despite A . I . programs being helpful in other ways at school , the cons override these benefits . If no one can completely stop students from cheating using A . I . programs , it is best for schools to completely shut down the use of these programs . This can prevent plagiarism and unfairness among the students .
