GET READY FOR A SCARY NIGHT! BY SOO YEON NAM Do you like watching horror movies? Horror movies are so appealing that people can’t stop watching them even though they are scary. There are many genres of horror films; Slasher film often revolves around a serial killer who systematically murders people in violent ways. Psychological horror films relie on the character’s fear, guilt, belief, emotion, music, and ghosts to build tension. Science horror films include aliens, mad scientists, and experiments gone wrong. Supernatural horror films include ghosts, demons, or other depictions of supernatural occurrences. Zombie films feature creatures that are usually portrayed as either reanimated corpses or mindless human beings. those who want to be frightened: The Exorcist, The Shining, Halloween, A Nightmare on Elm Street, Alien, Psycho, The Silence of the Lambs, The Thing, Saw, and Texas Chainsaw Massacre. These movies include various genres. The Exorcist–a supernatural horror, The Shining and Psycho psychological horror, Halloween, A Nightmare on Elm Street, and Texas Chainsaw Massacre–slasher horror, and Alien and The Thing–science fiction horror. Another junior at SLAS, Tsubasa Kazari, said that he started watching horror movies recently. “Slasher films scare me the most because it can happen in real life.” He added, “The thing that scares me the most in real life is death.” You might wonder, why do people watch horror movies? Sung Jun Kwon, a junior at SLAS answered, “When I watch horror movies, I get rid of stress.” He also said, “Supernatural horror such as Incidious scares me.” Horror movies make people get rid of stress. That’s one reason why people watch horror movies. Now you know the types of horror films that scare people, but what scares people in their real life? Here are the top 10 things that scare people: fear of death, the dark, creepy, crawly things, scary places, disfigurement, dismemberment, suspense, spooky music, lightning and thunder, fear of unusual.
