POPULAR SHOE BRANDS AT SLAS
BY TARO IKEDA
Students at Shanghai Livingston American School
(SLAS) wear different types of shoes from different
brands. Each person has his/her own opinion and
why he/she chose this brand. This might help you
choose if you’re wondering which shoes to buy. Shoes
are popular because celebrities wear them, and make
us want them.
Jack Yuan a sophomore who attends SLAS said, “I buy
Nike, Adidas, and Rick Owens mostly; however, I
purchase Nike and Adidas in their shops while I order
Rick Owens online from the states. I use Nike for sports
and Adidas for fashion. I wear Rick Owens just because
they look good in my opinion.” Jack’s top 3 choices
of shoes are Jordan IV, Yeezy 350 V2, and Adidas Ultra
boost. He also added, “I pick out my shoes by their
designs. I judge then greatly by their color because I
think color is a very important factor.”
During ancient times, people used animals’ skins or
furs wrapped around their feet as shoes. Today, shoes
are mainly made from leather, wood, canvas, and
high tech materials. Since each line of shoes has its
own unique function, people all over the world
nowadays buy all kinds of shoes that serve their
specific interests. There are also people who collect,
trade, or admire certain sneakers as a hobby, and
these people are referred as sneaker head. The most
commontypes of shoes are boots, athletic shoes,
12
dress & casual, unisex, dance, and orthopedic. On the
other hand, the most famous shoes all over the world
are Air Jordan, Adidas Ultra Boost, Yeezy, and Adidas
NMD.
Anton Ponomarenko, another sophomore from SLAS,
said, “I don’t have a favorite brand I buy most of the
sneakers online from Fight Club or Stadium goods,
and I also buysome of them from the UK resell stores.”
His top three choices of shoes are: Air Jordan IV retro
“Hornets”, Air Jordan II Retro low closing ceremony,
and Adidas NMD PK triple white. He also added, “The
main criteria’s for the shoes that I buy are the style of
the shoe and choice ofcolor. I think the shoes’
functionally and practicalities are important too; for
example Boost technology from Adidas is much more
comfortable than the Air technology from Nike.
Students in SLAS have all kinds of different choices of
their own shoes. For instance, most of the shoes that
Jack and Anton buy are athletic shoes. People get into
shoes for a variety of reasons, including fashion,
sports, and collecting. Nevertheless, buying too many
shoes can cause people to become addicted to shoes
collection despite developing a unique style of
fashion. As Michael Jordan claimed, “It’s not about
the shoes, it’s about what you do in them.”
