NEW TEACHERS BRING FRESH ENERGY INTO SLAS BY CATHRYN JIANG It is the beginning of another wonderful school year at Shanghai Livingston American School (SLAS). In 2016, SLAS brought in a fresh stream of new teachers into its threshold. These energetic teachers truly helped prepare students for their academic and personal success by bringing brand new energy into the SLAS educational community. In addition, creative teaching methods employed by teachers—resource providers, classroom supporters, and mentors—to students also encouraged their motivation. Last but not least, Advanced Placement (AP) courses were also expanded as SLAS is now able to provide its student body more class variety. Ms. Lusine Ghazaryan, a new secondary teacher in Economics and AP Statistics stated, "I enjoy working with my students. I like that teachers and students work hard together." Mr. Ronald Esposito who now teaches American History and AP U.S. History added, “The SLAS community is smaller and more cohesive. I teach older students which I'm able to speak freely with and explain concepts naturally to them." class and in the real world. New aspiring teachers at SLAS not only bring in unique activities into classrooms, but they also encourage students to excel in both academic and extracurricular activities. As professionals, teachers analyze the work produced by each student and then try their best to differentiate the curriculum based on the needs of their students. James Chiang, a senior student at SLAS stated, "I have Mr. Rodney's Physical Education class and Mr. Esposito's AP U.S. History class." He added enthusiastically, "Their classes are very interesting and they bring new activities and incorporate new teaching techniques to animate the class atmosphere." Without a doubt, these new teachers truly bring a fresh and lively spirit into SLAS. Furthermore, new teaching methods implemented by these new teachers also motivate students in class work and activities that appeal to the four core values at SLAS. Lastly, the hard work and devotion of SLAS teachers are highly appreciated by their students.
