SLAS Times 2015/2016 Winter 2015 PDF | Page 7

Hello Everybody! Welcome back to another edition of your beloved SLAS Times! This publication is produced by the students in the Journalism class and advised by Mr. Hector Flores. We are proud and excited to show you the hard work we have put into this magazine. While it’s a lot of work, it is very rewarding to see our semesters work showcased here. There are a variety of articles for you to read and we hope you enjoy reading each and every page of the SLAS Times! Ashim Saptoka lets out his inner movie critic and writes about the popular upcoming movies. He also lets us in on some hot spots that he enjoys around the city. Patrick Nam, our investigative reporter, looks into what it actually takes to get into university. Additionally, Patrick delves into what it takes to get community service hours at SLAS. Jin Hyuk Choi, our resident Korean expert, gives us a fascinating account of his corner of Shanghai in Korea Town. See which little places are popular with both Korean and locals alike. Joe Wu covered Christmas but giving us his 10 top tips to enjoy Christmas. Joe also gives us an in depth account into the much feared but necessary Senior Project. Hong An wrote about cookies, no really, he did! Hong An clarified what Pokie and Pepero Day means to Koreans, a holiday that we celebrate at SLAS but don’t understand very well. Peter Lee went out and compared Chuseok to Thanksgiving and found out that the holidays share more in common than we actually think! Tsubasa Kazari is quickly becoming our resident interviewer. In this issue, he went out and interviewed Mr. Mooney. Tsubasa also warns us about the pros and cons of social media and messaging apps. Jack Yuan did a wonderful job this issue by leading our editing sessions. Jack has an eagle eye for errors and all articles were overviewed by his sharp editing skills. Jonason Zhang is passionate about everything he does. Whether is Journalism or fundraising, Jonason actually combined both for an article on these very subjects! Howard Yan, our resident in calmness and serenity! No really, it takes a lot to rattle this guy and it’s a good thing when deadlines arrive. Check out his feature length articles that for the first time in Times history, took an entire page! 7
