Shanghai Livingston American School held the
first Back to School Bash in school history on
Saturday. This bash is a picnic event in which all
SLAS members in the community including
parents, students, and teachers are invited to
come. Most students came with their family and
some also brought their friends to come with
them to the event.
“It is very nice to have an event like this at school
for everyone,” said Ms. Han, the parent of a
student attending SLAS.
The bash was held on September 20th, 2014, from
3 p.m. to 7 p.m. There were many people present
such as students, teachers, administrators,
parents, and friends. Booths were set up for
games, food, markets, and uniforms. Food is an
important part of an event like this. Food and
drinks were prepared by SLAS, Korean PTSA,
Japanese PTSA, and student council. There was
also food from outside of school, like Blue Frog
and Mexican Lindo. Japanese and Korean
kindergarteners, elementary and secondary
students, and music teachers of SLAS performed
for the SLAS members and visitors. Participants
enjoyed their time playing sports and other
various activities. Toward the end, there were
fireworks to celebrate the special day at SLAS.
Mr. Thomas Kinahan, a science teacher of middle
and high school says, “The environment is chill,
fun, enjoyable, with music that adds more
feeling, watching the kid’s performances were
very nice.” Mr. Kinahan added, “I also get to talk
to people and wear regular clothes.”
“I think it is wonderful!,” said Ms. Dina Thigpen
