make a difference to how women like myself
looked and felt. The website gives readers the
chance to test products, buy carefully curated
beauty bags, and watch videos where products
are explained and recommended. Fighting Fifty
challenges the perceptions of ageing and gives
people in their fifties a place where they rec-
ognise themselves.
Six years later, Fighting Fifty is going from
strength to strength and I’ve had the oppor-
tunity to meet many inspirational people
who share my passion for living life to the
full after fifty. Together we are changing the
way older people are viewed and spoken to.
During this time the beauty industry has
dropped the anti-aging message and
increasingly older models are seen in glossy
magazines. Society’s view of ageing is slowly
adapting as more of us move into the second
half of our lives. And the internet has given
us the opportunity to easily convey ways to
live well into old age.
What I have learned is that age is no barrier to
self-improvement, that by pushing yourself you
can change your life and outlook both mentally
and physically. That ageing is inevitable but
ageing well is a choice. Taking regular exercise,
eating well and getting enough sleep are great
starting points to a healthy old age. After all,
age is just a number.
