PRODUCT REVIEW

ZENii Antioxidant Power Serum

By Danielle Hadley

However my skin is behaving , you will always find an antioxidant serum in my routine . After suffering an instant and particularly nasty reaction to a high strength formula a few years ago , I have tended to err on the side of caution when looking for new antioxidants to try ; opting instead for products that contain a lower concentration of active ingredients at around 5-7 %. But my head couldn ’ t help but be turned by the ZENii Antioxidant Power Serum . On first glance , it ticked all my antioxidant boxes but , on closer inspection , it contains a whopping 20 % concentration of L-Ascorbic Acid , also known as Vitamin C . Higher than the antioxidant which gave me the aforementioned reaction . Despite using something different while I deliberated my decision , I couldn ’ t ignore ZENii ’ s offering any longer and finally took the plunge a couple of months ago .

Before we get into the review , some housekeeping . When I say this serum is packed with actives , I mean packed . Its impressive roster of antioxidants includes : 20 % Vitamin C , 2 % Niacinamide , 1 % Vitamin E , 1 % Ferulic Acid , and 0.5 % Vitamin B5 , which isn ’ t technically an antioxidant , but is amazing at calming the skin . Throw in some Hyaluronic Acid for good measure and we could have a winner on our hands . Oh , yep , it ’ s got that too .
On first use , this serum exhibited some of the things I ’ ve come to expect from stronger antioxidants : it ’ s the colour of weak orange squash , has a distinctive and slightly unpleasant smell ( in this case , it whiffs of smoky bacon crisps ), and is very runny in consistency . None of which put me off in any way and shouldn ’ t deter you either . It ’ s simply what comes with a potent formula such as this . What did surprise me was how lovely it was to apply and how quickly it made my skin feel , just , better . This cocktail of antioxidant powerhouses immediately sank into my skin and before I had time to layer on my Hyaluronic Acid , it had left my skin feeling plump , conditioned and smooth . Since then I have looked forward to applying this serum every morning . I drip one drop onto each cheek , on my chin and , lastly , on my forehead before massaging it into my face and neck , as I am precious about my serums and hate to waste them on the palms of my hands .
For the weeks that I have been using this , it is my skin ’ s texture that has seen the most improvement . I don ’ t have any patches of pigmentation and my face is still relatively line-free ( I believe this is down to my consistent antioxidant use , by the way ) so I can ’ t comment on its ability to brighten and smooth away wrinkles . My main issues are blemishes and a lacklustre complexion , but this has made my skin feel voluminous and juicy without making it break out or feel greasy . Something I have also noticed is that , once my pimples have healed , the red marks they leave behind have quickly been whisked away to nothingness by this serum . Usually , I am left dealing with the remnants of a spot long after the initial flare up has subsided , but this has made the battle much less arduous and drawn out . Something I never really thought about until using this serum . Antioxidant Power Serum – welcome to the family .
