NOURISH
YOUR
SKIN
FROM
WITHIN
W
e recently had the pleasure of inter-
viewing Kathryn Danzey, founder
of Rejuvenated, a UK manufactured
range of collagen-boosting health and beauty
supplements, to find out how to achieve healthy
skin from the inside. She gave us the insider
knowledge on exactly which vitamins and min-
erals are key for the health of the skin.
SH: How do vitamins and minerals improve
the skin when taken orally?
Your skin is a reflection of what is going on
inside and all conditions from acne to ageing
are an indication of your internal health. While
skin is the largest organ of the human body it
comes last in the line for uptake of nutrients.
It has to take its turn as nutrients are initially
taken up by the vital organs, such as the brain,
heart and liver. A balanced diet is essential for
general health and the health of our skin.
However, studies show that adding collagen
supplements and potent antioxidants in the
form of vitamins and minerals will play a role
in boosting your complexion.
SH: Can supplements deliver results
without an effective topical routine?
At Rejuvenated we believe it is important that
good supplementation works hand in hand with
good skincare and a healthy lifestyle.
SH: What are the key nutrients skin needs
on a daily basis to function properly?
It is all about balance – a good supply of vita-
mins (A, B, C, D and E), minerals (copper, zinc,
magnesium, chromium and selenium), omega-
3, plant proteins, and hydrolysed marine colla-
gen are essential.
Start with fresh vegetables and fruits and overlay
with nourishing proteins. If you are busy and
on the go, add a plant protein to a morning
smoothie to keep you fuller for longer and
maintain energy levels. Collagen supplements
should be in a hydrolysed form. The molecular
size of proteins in our diet is too heavy to be
readily absorbed. A hydrolysed protein is already
broken down so that it is easy for the body to
assimilate it.
SH: What nutrients work best for treating
ageing, acne, and dehydration?
For ageing, collagen, collagen and more colla-
gen! It is the most abundant protein in the body,
this amazing ingredient supports and nourish-
es the whole body from the inside out.
Acne starts with a healthy balanced diet, reduc-
ing dairy and meat proteins and adding large
amounts of cruciferous vegetables. Plant
protein and greens powders can help to reduce
breakouts too.
Dehydration can be tackled with electrolytes
to create a healthy fluid balance and also with
omega-3 supplements.
SH: Does improving your consumption of
vitamins have other benefits?
