Step Two: Toner (AM + PM) We’re big fans of toning the skin, as the right solution will work like a booster for all the other products in your routine. Choose a formula that delivers a hit of something your skin craves after cleansing, such as moisture, oil control, radiance or exfoliation, and either spritz over the face or apply to a cotton pad before wiping it over the skin. Step Three: Treatment (AM + PM) This is when you apply the most potent or corrective product in your routine: a serum. Antioxidant serums work best when applied in the morning, while Vitamin A-based formulas suit your evening routine better. If blemishes or uneven pigmentation are bigger concerns than ageing, use this step to apply a BHA-in- fused treatment or active skin-brightener. To avoid expensive product waste, apply serum from a dropper directly onto the face and press it into the skin. Don’t bother massaging it between your palms to ‘warm up’ the product first; your hands will absorb all the good stuff before you even touch your face. Step Four: Eye Cream (AM + PM) Target fine lines, dark circles and puffiness around the delicate eye area next. Creams, serums and gels tend to work best in this area, but mature and severely dry skin can benefit from something with a balmier texture. As the skin here is thinner than the rest of your face, pat, press and tap a small amount of product into the skin and allow it to fully absorb before moving on. Step Five: Moisturiser (AM + PM) Unlike serum, which is corrective, moisturiser is simply about hydration and maintaining the lipid layer. Massaged into the skin, the right moisturising cream, lotion or balm should quench the skin’s thirst (yes, even oily skin) and leave it feeling plump and looking a little pink if you have massaged it in thoroughly – this stimulates blood flow and gives the skin a healthy glow. Step Six: Sunscreen (AM Only) Along with cleansing, this is the most important step in your routine. Skipping SPF leaves your skin unprotected against the sun’s UV rays and everything they cause, from wrinkles and dark spots to cancer. Again, opt for a texture that suits your skin type and don’t forget to take it down your neck and on to the back of the hands.
