HOW TO SURVIVE
A BAD SKIN DAY
By Danielle Hadley
A recent survey* revealed that women suffer
from 84 bad skin days a year, that’s around seven
days a month, meaning we essentially dedicate
a quarter of our time to stressing about the
condition of our complexion, with issues such
as large pores, breakouts, fine lines, dark circles
and sun spots taking up the majority of our
worry time. The same survey of 2000 women
also found that some of us don’t even feel con-
fident enough to leave the house on bad skin
days. Admittedly, fixing the biggest mood-af-
fecting skin concerns isn’t easy but there are
ways to make a bad skin day better.
Stick to what you know
On those days when you can’t bear to look at
your complexion for too long, stick to the basics.
Those tried and true products that have been
part of your routine for years are the safest way
to avoid exacerbating a breakout or an unex-
pected bout of dry, flaky skin. Deciding on that
day to try a completely new moisturiser or
cleanser might make matters worse, so avoid
using anything new and untested until your
skin has calmed down.
Make concealer your BFF
It might sound obvious, but concealer is a bad
skin day essential. Whatever is bothering you,
a quick dab of concealer will quickly make
you feel better. It might not improve the
problem, but it will give you the confidence
to go about your day without worrying if your
best friend, work colleague or fellow commut-
ers are staring at that huge pimple that ap-
peared on your chin overnight.
Take the time to mask
Most of us have at least one face mask in our
collection and if your skin is prone to certain
issues, then ensuring you have one designed for
your complexion gripe means you can quickly
whip out this problem-solver on bad skin days.
Depending on how much time you have, use
your chosen formula in the morning to make
the rest of your day flow a little smoother.
