Steps for Negotiation Select a time and place suited to working out problems. Arrange to meet when you are calm, not impatient or rushed. Choose a quiet meeting place. Work together toward a solution. Do not approach the other person as an enemy. Instead, work together to reach a solution.  Keep an open mind. Remember that there are two sides to every story. Listen carefully to what the other person has to say.  Be flexible. Be willing to meet the other person halfway.
