We have a combination of verbs when we use will:
I know that he will arrive soon.
and also we have the following combination:
I knew that he would arrive.

VERB MEANING USE
-Will -after the present -do not use past
-would -after the past -do not use present
Sam thinks that he would get the highest scores o the exam.
I certainly know that I will graduate next year.
