"I do belong to a particular faith and try to incorporate that dogma into my life, but I do so only because my own ideas about God, life etc.. seem to fit with my religion".

We're all atheists. You know what it's like to be atheist as your atheist to every religion but you're own, we just add yours too that list.

+Lee Douglas I honestly don't understand your last comment. That is not the kind of God you believe in and your not sure yet what kinda of God it is you believe in?

+Lee Douglas the only thing I am getting out of it is that your not sure why you believe that a God exists and not sure what kind of God it is

+Ousmane Sylla Yeah that more or less rings true. But is is God we are talking about so I guess I can make any shit up huh.

+Lee Douglas I guess me question would be, sorry if I didn't catch it before, why do you hold your position if your not sure as to what kind of God it is and not sure why you believe?

+Ousmane Sylla As stated, I really don't know.

I have this belief, I don't know how it got there, or what to do with it, I know only that it exists.

I have asked myself if it is a good belief or a bad belief to hold, what effect it has on my life, has it enriched it or made it worse? On the whole my life seems better with it, but even then, you know I can't say for sure how my life would differ without it.

The real thing though is (and perhaps this is the root of your confusion) that holding such beliefs seems perfectly natural a thing for us humans to do. In other words I utterly reject this idea that our brains (yours as atheist and mine as theist) work differently or in some ways are different.

As I say you too hold onto such beliefs, we all do.

+Lee Douglas Ah, so you subscribe to your own personal interpretation of a god. Undoubtedly, you came to it through one religion or a other; but

+Lee Douglas I actually like and appreciated that response. Most people aren't honest about it.
