WHAT SHOULD YOU EXPECT?
WHAT DO WE LOOK FOR?
Our teachers are experts in their fields and will work closely with you to develop your learning and encourage enquiry.
This booklet will tell you a little more about the application process, the subjects we offer at A-level, about‘ Div’, which all pupils take, and about the EPQ, which you will take in Year 12. It will also detail how we will support you in applying for university and a future career.
“ At Winchester it’ s a lot more conversationbased within classes. The class sizes are smaller, so you form a really good relationship with your teacher.”
Bea, Sixth Form entrant
“ Everyone here is looking to learn.”
Fran, Sixth Form entrant
You should think carefully about your subject options and combinations: choose subjects which complement and enrich each other, which fit with the requirements of what you might like to study at university, and above all, in which you have a genuine interest. Sixth Form pupils at Winchester generally take three subjects at A-level. The only pupils who take four A-levels are those who either do Further Maths or do both Latin and Greek
We expect candidates to be predicted high grades across all their GCSE subjects. In particular, you should be expecting to gain a 8, 9 or A * in the subjects you are planning to take for A-level. We are also looking for pupils who are curious about the world around them, who ask questions and demand answers, and who have the drive and desire to learn beyond any exam.
You will find that Winchester is a special place: a place that has a rich academic history but that looks firmly forward, and a place where you can find, develop and express your interests, whatever they look like.
