SIXTEEN (Human Relations Final Project) (May 5th) | Page 16

Let’s start with some information. “A social group is 2 or more people who identify and interact with one another.” But no because there are 3000 people in a certain place, is a group. The social groups in our age, (15-18), is extremely important, like my mother used to say “Tell me who are your friends, and I tell you who you are”.

There are like levels, let’s start with Primary group, this category is for more likely family, a small group of people, with personal relationships, and long lasting relationships, that gave you emotional to financial security.

Asch assembled several groups of student volunteers and then asked the subjects which of the three lines on a card was as long as the line on another card..

And a reference group, that is the most important group in adolescence, your friends, your besties, the people you will call when you have a problem, and will understand your tweets and the one who you will upload photos in Instagram, and send them ugly snapchats. This people will influence your way of thinking and reacting. The choices you make will be also influence by this people. Is hard to find loving and loyal people, so be patience, you won’t find them passing the corner. A social group in high school means everything, just because of the fact of being popular, or being the it girl, or whatever you want to be. Is better to have few real friends than lots of fake friends.

And you are probably wondering “How do I know if they are real friends?”, I suggest that you make a table, good thing, and bad thing of the relationship, if you see that there are more negative things, take out that person of your life. “in order to new thing to arrive, we must eliminate the old things”, well in this case people.

So do not forget the importance of friends, if you have real and good friends, take care of them, because there are not many.

A secondary Group is a little bit larger, more impersonal, and more likely a short term thing. But is important because you will have the same interest, and goals.

So let’s get a little scientific here, and talk about research and theories about the importance of groups.

Sociologists have been especially interested in two forms of group behavior: conformity and leadership.

The pressure to conform within small groups can be quite powerful. Many people go along with the majority regardless of the consequences or their personal opinions. Nothing makes this phenomenon more apparent than Solomon Asch's classic experiments from the 1950s and 1960s.

Not all groups are the same
