WELCOME TO THE
Spring/Summer 2018 Issue of
SIX STAR
THE MAGAZINE FOR SUBARU OWNERS IN CANADA
With this new issue, we believe we’ve really captured the lure
of the open road and the pursuit of adventure. We know that
many of our customers truly enjoy experiencing everything that
travel can bring to our lives and we hope that these stories inspire
everyone to explore more.
Our cover story on the Yukon, including Whitehorse and the
Saint Elias Mountains, perfectly illustrates adventure in all its many
forms. Our writer/photographer journeyed there in the early
stages of spring and discovered a fairly remote part of Canada that
is definitely worth a visit. The Saint Elias Mountains are also the
highest mountain range in the country, so they represent the perfect
backdrop for an adventure-ready vehicle with a name like Ascent.
The 2019 Subaru Ascent is, of course, the other cover star of
this issue. We’ve been developing this brand-new vehicle for
years now, we’re thrilled with the results and we trust the Subaru
faithful will be as well. As you might expect, the Ascent features
all of the core technology for which Subaru has become famous,
contained within a larger, more spacious and more comfortable
package. Inside this issue, you can read more about the Ascent
and what makes it so special.
This issue contains a number of other fantastic articles. We have
a feature story on the greatest Inuit artist of all time, Kenojuak
Ashevak, and the legacy her work has created. Our writer, an
acclaimed expert who worked with the artist in her Cape Dorset
studio years ago, has created a compelling profile, as well as a sidebar
on three up-and-c oming Inuit artists following in her footsteps.
We also have another tremendous adventure story, a largely
photographic essay on touring Iceland (from behind the wheel of a
Subaru Forester) and its capital city, Reykjavik. As with Canada, the
country of Iceland is perhaps thought of as being cold and barren—
but the stunning images reveal this to be far from the truth.
Continuing the theme of outdoor adventure, we have an
exploration of the world of rock climbing, another story inspired
by the Subaru Ascent. One of the fastest-growing activities in
North America, rock climbing will be a featured sport in the
summer Olympic Games in 2020.
For our athlete profile, we caught up with professional
mountain bike racer Haley Smith, just before she headed off to
compete for Team Canada at the 2018 Commonwealth Games.
Subaru is a true enthusiast brand and so we have an article on
the new “tuned by STI” offering, embodied by the limited-edition
Subaru BRZ tS. We also have a news item in our Subaru 360 section
covering an exciting concept vehicle. And the Star Customer for
this issue, Ron Kirk, is as hardcore an enthusiast as you’re likely to
find—his story will certainly leave you feeling motivated.
In closing, we hope that you will enjoy this issue of Six Star as
much as our team enjoyed producing it. As ever, we encourage your
feedback—this magazine is devoted to you, the Subaru customer,
so it’s vitally important that the articles reflect your interests.
Enjoy the read, enjoy the open road and live the adventure!
