Starting in May, we will inaugurate “Inspiration
Village,” a first in Ottawa. We will transform the
space between Byward and Sussex on York Street
into a beautiful prime spot in downtown Ottawa.
The space will go from being a parking lot to a
place of celebration that pays tribute to all the
provinces and territories.
The parking spots will house more than 40
artistically modified sea containers to create stages,
catwalks and rooftops for visual arts exhibits and
performing arts activities. Imagine a sea container
opening up and smoke coming out and then a super-
cool band from Nunavut performing traditional
music from that part of the country. Performances
will run daily from mid-May to early September.
Another must-see experience in early summer
will be “Kontinuum,” an underground journey
through time and space. A future light-rail transit
station in the 2.5-kilometre tunnel underneath
the downtown core will be transformed into a
multi-media experience. People will walk through
the station and be exposed to spectacular lights,
sounds and special effects.
This will be a unique sensory trip and a
completely immersive experience. You will get
a body scan that will read the frequency of your
body, and then travel through different zones
into the future. This installation is not about
listening to a story, but rather about interpreting
an experience the way you want.
