WELCOME TO THE
FALL/WINTER 2019 Issue of
SIX STAR
THE MAGAZINE FOR SUBARU OWNERS IN CANADA
W
hile many Canadians wait for months on end for
summer to arrive, this issue celebrates the cooler
seasons of the year—and encourages you to bundle up and
explore more. As I’ve learned, there’s so much to see and do
in this country, it would be a shame to stay inside whenever
the temperature drops even a little bit.
For example, while the location of our cover story may be
perceived only as a warm-weather destination, the Muskoka
Region offers incredible experiences 365 days per year. As
our writer discovered, this area is filled with tremendous
natural beauty, fresh air, clear lakes and an abundance of
adventurous activities.
In many ways, Muskoka is also the perfect setting for the
all-new 2020 Subaru Outback, one of two featured vehicles
in this issue. The all-new Outback is more capable and more
adventure-ready than ever before. So it was an easy decision
to take this truly unique vehicle to this fantastic setting,
which has been one of the country’s most cherished outdoor
playgrounds for so long.
In this issue, you can read about the all-new Outback and
the other all-new entry to the line-up, the 2020 Subaru Legacy.
These two vehicles have been completely reengineered and
redesigned, achieving new levels of competence, comfort
and safety in the process. We hope you enjoy the articles on
the all-new Outback and the Legacy—but, to be honest, we
can’t wait for you to test-drive these vehicles for yourself.
Elsewhere, we have stories on two other winter
activities that are exciting in their own way, but for vastly
different reasons. For our article on winter camping, we
sent two writers to two different parts of the country to
explore what it means to get back in touch with nature as
the snow flies. Then, speaking of snow flying, we have a
story on a different kind of cold-weather adventure, the
Subaru Winter Experience.
This advanced driving school, which takes place each
winter in the middle of a frozen lake in the middle of
nowhere (actually, northern Wisconsin) has been developed
by professional rally driver Patrik Sandell in partnership
with Subaru of America and DirtFish Rally School. The
school sees students driving a variety of new Subaru models,
and learning the techniques needed to drive effectively on
snow and sheer ice.
The other stories include a full slate of news from
the world of Subaru, another travel story on the famous
lobster trail in Nova Scotia and an interview with
Canadian kayaker Haley Daniels, who’s preparing for the
2020 Summer Olympics in Tokyo.
In closing, we hope that you enjoy this issue and that it
encourages you to explore more as the weather gets a bit
colder. As always, we encourage your feedback on any of
the stories contained in this issue and we even welcome
suggestions for future stories.
