The Subaru Winter Experience offers one- and two-day training programs, along with special one-on-one coaching packages for those with more serious motorsports aspirations in mind. The packages are very comprehensive, featuring skill-building exercises such as using braking to alter weight transfer, effective skid recovery and initiating drifts. The two-day program adds more advanced techniques, such as the Scandinavian flick (one of the best feelings in driving when you get it right), and practicing on a rally stage while using pace notes just like the professionals. “We have, over the years, trained everyone from F1 drivers and WRC stars to average drivers,” says Patrik. “They all learn something from our schools. Car control is key when the car is loose at all times, as it is on the lake—you can learn so much in this awesome environment.” Perhaps this all sounds a bit hardcore. But when you think about the combined experience of DirtFish and FlatOut, then consider their ability to cater to all sorts of drivers at all experience levels, things start to come into focus. After all, we can only handle so much time behind snowplows before we have to let loose a little. Pricing for the Subaru Winter Experience ranges from USD$1,300 for the single-day program to USD$2,400 for the two-day program. Overnight accommodation is available at the school’s official home base, the Chanticleer Inn, where you can stay in everything from a standard motel room to a private villa.
