hen the first Subaru Legacy was introduced back in 1989, it was a
radical departure from most other sedans on the market at the time.
Although the Legacy was equipped with a SUBARU BOXER engine and was
made available with all-wheel drive—at the time, two very unconventional
ideas that remain hallmarks of Subaru to this day—the car was also designed
to move the brand more towards the mainstream.
