90 per cent new parts compared to the previous engine,
develops a healthy 182 horsepower and 176 lb.-ft. of
torque. This engine is connected to a new version of
the Lineartronic Continuously Variable Transmission
(CVT) that is calibrated for both superior response and
increased efficiency.
On the other hand, there’s the direct-injection
turbocharged 2.4-litre 4-cylinder, which heralds the
return of the XT variant to the Subaru Outback line. This
engine develops 260 horsepower and 277 lb.-ft. of torque,
and features a broad torque curve starting at 2,000 rpm
and rising to 4,800 rpm. The turbo engine is paired with a
high-torque version of the CVT.
While the exterior design of the all-new Outback
doesn’t veer far off a tried-and-true course established by
previous generations, people will come away surprised
by the interior design. The goal here was to take the
passenger compartment to a level found only in much
more expensive vehicles. The starting point was a much
more user-friendly space with more room for all occupants
and their cargo, as well as improved ergonomics, more
amenities and significantly increased levels of comfort.
The list of standard comfort and convenience
features is an impressive one: AWD, automatic climate
control, heated front seats, 10-way power driver’s seat,
Bluetooth mobile phone connectivity, Apple CarPlay and
Android Auto, roof rails with integrated crossbars and
tie-down loops, LED fog lights and those LED headlights,
complete with High Beam Assist. One of the key optional
features worth a shout-out is the tablet-style touchscreen
that incorporates vehicle, climate and multimedia controls.
The all-new Outback will offer Canadians seven trim
levels to choose from: Convenience, Touring, Limited,
Premier, Outdoor XT, Limited XT and Premier XT.
The Outdoor XT features a dual-function X-MODE
system with settings for snow/dirt and deep snow/mud—
the perfect feature for when the road ends and the real
adventure begins. This model also features a front-view
camera, all-weather rubber floor mats, soft-touch all-
weather upholstery with green accent stitching, 18-inch
alloy wheels, and black door mirrors and front grille.
By the time you read this brief, the 2020 Outback
is now in dealerships across Canada. We humbly suggest
that you stop reading now and book yourself a test drive.
