My road trip today consists of a right-footed blast out
of Victoria along the Trans-Canada Highway towards
Duncan. About an hour out of town, I spot a sign for the
Malahat Summit pull-out, but locals know the second
pull-out is better. After the obligatory selfie, I’m back in
the car winding my way past Shawnigan Lake to one of
the world’s most spectacular timber rail tressle structures,
Kinsol Tressle.
The food is great, but certainly no match for the stunning
view of the Tofino harbour. The sun slowly dips below the
waterline and I call it a night. In the morning, all that’s
left to do on my Vancouver Island bucket list is dip my
toes in the ocean at Long Beach and aim my car back
towards home.
