Issue 10: Tamil Media Recommendation 3: Talent Search and Development • Conduct talent searches in school. Tamil language societies in school do put up good quality dramas. These talents can be identified to improve the talent pool, quality of shows as well as create more cultural content. • Conduct debates, talks and workshops regularly in schools to educate the students about the Tamil culture, instead of only in the Tamil Language Festival. • Record stage plays (cultural context to be given by Vasantham/Oli 96.8) by youths and broadcast them. This will serve as an incentive for the youths to research more about the Tamil culture and exercise their creativity to bring this culture on stage. Recommendation 4: Improving Quality of Tamil in Media • Media must be the safeguard against the decreasing standards of the Tamil language used. • Create short 5 to 10-minute filler segments which identify new Tamil words every month and explain the meanings of those words in a creative manner. This is similar to the current SINDA advertisements that share about ways to solve Mathematics sums easily. • These segments must be concise and broadcasted during primetime slots. • Upload these segments on social media to maximise the reach of these posts. • In the long run, these filler segments can be consolidated into an application such as ‘Pictionary’ for classroom teaching or self-learning.
