Royal Court
Michelle Adams
Marry or die, obedience or shame
Love is a fairytale
Life is a dangerous game
Beware of feelings
Be aware of your passion
The beast knows its dealings
And it knows no compassion
Where noblemen are cynical
And bastards kind,
Where ladies are critical
And wenches declined.
A lady and her love
To be left alone is against the law
Why is chosen love a crime?

Henry, the king’s bastard
The lady’s husband
He was a king’s trick plastered
But failed by the thousand
Orders are always to be followed
Or death is sure to be next
Words dryly are swallowed
The cold, iron arm of justice flexed
But the lady and the bastard
Surprised their ruler
By a marriage they mastered
And made him the intruder
In the morning the beheading
In the night a feast
He rules a dull setting
Where no light is to be released
Love and happiness a fickle myth
To most of the subjects
Each moment is a gift
When indulging these precious objects
Women have no power
Women have no say
Men have no honor
As they are easily swayed The gloomy London sky
Was just a masked ball
They were daring and dared to try
And had the romance to end it all
The King, a tyrant
His son is hers but yet he is not
They live in a castle that is vibrant
But has a weak spot Howard and Fitzroy
We arranged to allow their crime
The King thought it to be a ploy
But it went on for a lifetime
A king or a beast?
Is there really a difference?
Free will is deceased
So life will be and has been quite the experience Alas, one went away
Disease making its debut
Death had an oath to betray
And love withdrew
