Those Who Truly Deserve It Miguel González Unconditional love is a strange concept. An idea that is hard to grasp. Or an unknown feeling. Through the actions of parents Who are present more than anyone else, One gets to appreciate unconditional love And its undeniable beauty. Great comfort can be found in this belief. In the conviction that even if all goes wrong, you do not stand alone. Yet is it not sad that the adrenaline of being young Makes you forget? It cannot be entirely your fault, For you know everything there is to know about family. So you look for exciting new people To create memories with. Blurry nights out and fun stories make way, Freely replacing what otherwise could have been Family trips, or precious time with the only ones Who you know will be there for life. Behaving as if life is forever, but deep inside Knowing that death does not discriminate. Its certainty is in everyone’s subconscious, And daring to face it is difficult. Disregarding it means avoiding reality, And the bubble is bound to burst. Only after you lose someone close do you realize: No one should ever be taken for granted. Still, you want to leave everything behind; Not appreciating enough all that family does for you, And leaving with the certainty that Once you are back they will still be there. As if you never left them. But the day may come when they are not there. No one is expected to love unconditionally, But never forget to be there for Those who are truly worth it, Those who come first. Part of the reason you forget is the Fear of losing friends. “Only ten more weekends!” they keep reminding you, And after that, they might be but memories. Yet it is not the same with family. And taking anyone for granted is a mistake. 84 85
