BETHEL

The battle of Big Bethel occured before Bull Run on June 10, 1861. Tnis battle was the first fought one on Virginia's soil. GG

This battle was also a confederate victory. The Confederate forces were led by General Magruder. There were only eight casualties on the Confederate side. Union forces were scattered at this battle while the southern forces held up strong. But much like many of the other early battles both sides were inexperienced. This battle did not give ethier the Union or the Confederacy the Virginia Peninsula in which they were fighting over.
