which I then can bring into the
classroom.
Nyla: Any favorite moments with
students?
Miss Fast: I’m not just saying
this because I’m talking to you, but
seeing you continue on with your
writing has been amazing. Another
moment was when I had my first
intern. Her supervising teacher
was my English teacher from high
school. He was a favorite teacher of
mine, and one who influenced my
decision to pursue teaching! He has
definitely had an impact on how I
teach. It was neat getting to interact
with him again, when he came to
evaluate the intern, and actually
work with him for a short time as
colleagues. I kept wanting to call
him Mr. Janzen though!
Nyla: I know, it feels weird to call
a teacher by their first name. Hence
why I still call you Miss Fast! Do
you have a favorite Bible verse?
Miss. Fast: Isaiah 40:31. It’s
just always been a verse I’ve been
drawn to. My mom tells me when

she sees eagles, she thinks of me
and my verse. I have a little side
note written beside that verse in
my Bible that says, “Change our
strength for God’s.”
In conclusion? The world
needs more “Miss Fasts.” People
who go the distance for others.
Her dedication to her students is
vividly clear. Yes, she may wake
up a bit tired, since she’s a very
involved mom and involved in
extracurricular activities on top of
teaching full time, but it’s worth it.
Her life is full but well lived. She
has touched lives and will continue
to. She is changing the world,
influencing people to become
world changers, one student at a
time.
