In regards to Breast Cancer Awareness Month Life over Cancer Inspiration Story By & Model: Kayla Cain Photos By: Danta Simonsen Breast cancer will not be the thing that holds her back or destroys her career. Born on May 6, 1988, Kayla Cain grew up in the small town of DeFuniak Springs on a horse farm. With 2 sister’s and a brother. She got her first job at 15 cleaning condos on the weekend. At 18, she rented her first house with a roommate in Destin Beach. After living there for a while she knew she was destined for something more. So at 20 year’s old, she moved to South Florida with only $300 dollars to her name and got a job as a waitress at Capones Flicker Light Restaurant on the beach.  While working she met a photographer who did a small shoot and she was hooked!! She immediately began looking for more photographers, trying to get into the modeling business. After being in a bad relationship things got slow for her business-wise and she began bar tending, never forgetting her goal. Then out of nowhere, she got her first major job touring! When she arrived back home she decided to take a break only doing a few shoots here and there for a few year’s while trying to really get her foot in the door. “This is such a hard business to get into and remain in constantly,” she says.  She continued to work and grow in her modeling career when on March 18, 2013, she was diagnosed with stage 3 breast cancer. Of course much like anyone she didn’t know how to take it and didn’t want to believe it. Needless to say, thing’s took a turn for the worse and spiraled out of control. She became very depressed and moved out of her house and into a hotel where no one could find her. It took 3 months and coaching to get her out of her little hotel room but from that day on she decided to face the world and her fight began!  www.simplyelevate.com 27
