When God puts something
inside of us... meet Pam Green

When Pamela Green started singing at the age of
five, she had no idea how that gift would follow her
into her adult life. Raised in the church, her father
let her join his church choir. “He quickly discovered
that I could carry a tune,” and granted his young
daughter her first solo at the age of seven. The sixth
of seven children, Pam was born into a very musical
family. When Pam was 11, her older brothers, Mark
and Raphael, led the family on a singing tour.
From there singing came naturally to Pam and she
continued on to sing in school choruses, and was
a member of the Oral Roberts University travelling
black ensemble “Souls A’ Fire.”
After college, Pam worked with several
different churches and eventually her brother’s
church leading choirs and praise groups. Her
dream of singing took a backseat to her family. “I
wasn’t even thinking about singing anymore. I had
gone through a divorce, and getting my life back
on track and raising my children. For a while I just
stopped singing.” While raising her two children,
she discovered her other passion in working with
youth. Pam invested her energy and musical talent
teaching the young people in her church about
praise and worship through singing. Through the
youth, God led her back into singing.
And then about five years ago, God started
talking to Pam about pursuing her talents as a solo
artist. “My mother and several other people started
coming to me with messages that God had placed
it on their hearts that I was meant to do a CD.” With
no money or resources, Pam had no idea where to
start. She turned to her good friend, Chrys Yvette,
for guidance and prayer in May 2007. By November
of that same year, Chrys came to Pam saying that
God moved her to produce Pam’s CD.
With the financial aspect solved, God focused on the
music. Pam remembers the experience of putting
her first CD together well. “I am not a writer. I had
never written a song in my life. All the music we ever
sang my brothers wrote. I’m a singer. When I got
ready to do this project, God sent word to me that
I would be writing the music. And at first I laughed
and I said, ‘God knows that I don’t write music.’” But
when God has his mind set on something, he will
make it happen. As she sat with her producer one
night going over the logistics of the album, Pam
had assembled songs she liked from other writers.
“Chrys said, ‘Pam you are supposed to write.’ She
came and put her hand on my back and said, ‘Stop
being afraid and let the spirit of God flow through
you and let the words come out.’ Right when she
said that I started to hear my favorite scripture,
Jeremiah 29:11.” The verse states, “’For I know the
plans I have for you,’ declares the LORD, ‘plans to
prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you
hope and a future.’” “I turned to the Bible and the
second I got to the scripture I heard the tune. The
Holy Spirit started singing the entire song to me
and I heard it from beginning to end.” Pam went
on to hear three more songs that night. “I would
hear music in my sleep and have to get up to write
it down.” And Pam’s first solo CD, fittingly titled “In
His Presence,” was born.
Pam released “In His Presence” in February 2009 and
has been ministering through her voice ever since. Her
songs have been featured on her local radio stations in
St. Louis and others across the country. Pam has since
been nominated for two Anjelica Records Music Love
Awards, Female Artist of the Year and Contemporary
Female Artist of the Year. “God told me he was going to
open up doors for me, and here we are. It has solidified
in my spirit that God will do what he says he will do.
When things get stressful I refer back to this project to
see how God keeps his word.”
This past summer Pam gave her voice a rest and took
a break from singing for the first time in five years.
September hit and her break was over. Pam’s phone
started ringing and she has events scheduled through
the rest of this year. And as for a new CD? “Since the
project ended I haven’t heard another tune. But now
I’ve started to hear tunes that I’ve not heard before. So
now I am writing again.” With no finali
